Occupational Therapy for Neurological Recovery

Personalized, in-home neuro
occupational therapy in
Indianapolis and
surrounding
areas

I help people and families live deeply meaningful lives, even as neurological conditions change the body, the brain, and the rhythms of daily life.

Neuro-based occupational therapy:

  • Supports neurological recovery as fully as possible, and

  • Focuses on building a life that feels meaningful, connected, and worth living right now.

Who I Work With

I work primarily with adults living with neurological conditions that affect movement, thinking, and/or communicating in their daily live.

This includes, but is not limited to, people living with:

  • Stroke

  • Brain Injury (including traumatic injuries and non-traumatic injuries)

  • Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders

  • Multiple Sclerosis

  • Post-concussion syndrome

  • Long COVID with neurological or cognitive symptoms

  • Autism with executive functioning challenges

  • Other neurological conditions affecting function, independence, or quality of life

You don't need to see your diagnosis listed here to be a good match for neuro OT. If neurological changes are making daily life feel harder, occupational therapy may still be a good fit.

What I Help With

Neurological condition can impact so many aspects of our physical and mental functioning.

I commonly help people experiencing:

  • Hemiparesis (weakness or paralysis on one side of the body)

  • Coordination and motor control difficulties

  • Cognitive changes - including problems with concentration, memory, and other thinking skills

  • Vision deficits - like neglect, double vision, and visual field cuts

  • Balance challenges and fall risk

  • Fatigue or difficulty sustaining daily activities

Common goals:

  • Improving arm movement, strength, and coordination

  • Being able to bathe, dress, groom more independently

  • Return to cooking, homemaking, parenting, lawn care, work, and other productive (and leisure!) activities

  • Learning how to conserve energy

  • Managing challenges with concentration, memory, and emotional regulation

  • Increasing transfers and functional mobility in the home and community

  • Making the home environment safer and easier to navigate

  • Helping caregivers learn how to help their loved one, this includes safe transfers, cueing, and learning when to give space

Every session is grounded in evidence-informed practice, focusing on improving underlying skills that support safe, independent, and meaningful participation in everyday life.

My Therapy Approach

Recovery after neurological injury or illness is guided both by science and the survivor's real-life experiences.

In our sessions, we blend neuroscience with practical, individualized strategies that support meaningful living. This often includes two complementary paths:

1. Recovery through neuroplasticity

We use evidence-based interventions to help rebuild brain–body connections to improve strength, coordination, cognition, and balance to achieve the best functional outcomes possible.

2. Living fully with your current abilities

At the same time, we develop strategies to navigate daily life with purpose and dignity. You’ll learn ways to engage in your roles, routines, and hobbies right now, while still aiming for continued recovery.

How I Work With You

Mobile Outpatient OT allows us to practice skills where life actually happens – in your home, your community or via telehealth when appropriate. â€‹

Together, we co-create the best treatment plan for you, and you decide how often sessions happen. â€‹â€‹

  • Treatment plans are flexible and evolve as your needs and goals change.

Pathways uses a private pay model* so insurance rules do not dictate your care. We offer discounted private pay rates that are much more affordable than traditional outpatient clinics.

  • *We also accept Traditional Medicare, so these individuals also have access to the same personalized care.

In all sessions, you work directly with me - Jessica Miller, OTR/L, CBIS. I'm a registered and licensed occupational therapist and certified brain injury specialist. I bring 20+ years of neuro rehab experience, clinical reasoning, and practical strategies, grounded in compassion and evidence-based practice.

Where I Work

I provide occupational therapy services primarily in the Indianapolis area and surrounding communities. Because my work is community- and home-based, service area decisions are made case by case.

In some situations, travel beyond the service area may still be an option with an additional travel fee.

When in-person services aren’t the best fit due to distance or scheduling, telehealth may be an option.

If you’re unsure whether you’re within my service area, I encourage you to reach out.

We can talk through what’s possible and find the best fit together.
